DID YOU KNOW...
In the early stages, it is essential to focus on the development of the student's phonemic awareness - the ability to hear, identify and arrange phonemes (individual sounds), instead of routine memorization exercises.
PLUS - By training your student to identify individual letter sounds instead of the limited memorization techniques & exercises, you equip them to decode words along with their sounds even if they have not seen the words beforehand.
This method lays the STRONG foundation for learning any language and develops important universal communications skills they will use for a LIFETIME!

PROGRAM STRUCTURE
Each Learning the Alphabet workbook is divided into six sections:
-
SECTION 1: Letter Identification
-
Your student will learn to identify the featured letter with engaging activities and worksheets that prepare them for the following sections, which include letter formation, letter sounds and more.
Along with the letter identification, they will gain the ability to recognize uppercase versus lowercase letter shapes.
And in addition to the quality student activities, instructors get practical tools such as flashcards / posters to aid in the process of teaching the letter shapes.
-
SECTION 2: Letter Formation
-
Following letter identification, your student will be introduced to how each letter shape is formed. This part of the program includes step-by-step posters on how to build the uppercase and lowercase letters and hands-on activities such as creating the letter shape using play-doh.
Letter formation is taught using the continuous stroke method versus the traditional ball-and-stick method.
PLUS, the program includes essential teaching tips for proper letter formation that helps your student easily develop great handwriting.
-
SECTION 3: Beginning Letter Sounds
-
The next section of the program is to present the most common sound of the featured letter while building your student's phonemic awareness. Activities include creating a letter mini-book, practicing letter sounds using a flipbook, and various picture worksheets to identify letter sounds.
-
SECTION 4: Writing Practice
-
At this point in the program, your student will dive into writing practice of the featured letter through various activities. The goal here is simply to introduce the concept of writing and give opportunities to practice this skill, not achieve mastery.
-
SECTION 5: Letter Styles

The purpose of section five is to introduce your student to the concept that letters may have different styles or design.
Your student will practice identifying common letter variations to build awareness and understanding.
